How to delete something in Zbrush by Dwayne Roberts

I never thought of the many problems that modeling can be until you have them. One of those problems is deleting unwanted geometry that comes to you when sculpting. Well, in Zbrush, there is more than one way to delete geometry, and I will show you two ways you can do it. As you can see, we have this model right here that I have, and I am going to show you a problem that I have that I need to get rid of extra geometry that needs to die. So I will show you some ways you can fix this situation.

The first thing that I have learned was that a brush that just was released could help you Fix Unwanted Geometry. as you can see, I have a sea monster hand on this lovely model here, and I do not want the figures to look like that.

Go into your brush pallet, and pick the Trim Dynamic Brush ( the shortcut is, by pressing the keypad is b, t, then d). I got this result between the brush and the smooth tool (Hold down shift on the keypad). As you can see, this is an excellent outcome when you are using this tool; however, sometimes, you will have to use the move tool in the brush pallet to help you adjust the geometry to place them in the right place you want it to be.

This next one is a little advance for people who are very good at Zbrush. This way is technically a brush, but I do not think so because when you are using a brush, you do not hold down buttons on the keypad when you are using it. As you can see here, we have the same hand that we fixed the last time.

The first thing you are going to do is hold down the spacebar to adjust the size of your brush. Next, you will hold the shift and cmd/ctrl (Mac/PC) key to get the iso select tool. If you want to, you can choose different select tools that can help you select the area that you want to adjust when doing it this way. I use the select lasso. Select the location that you wish to isolate. Now by holding the shift and the cmd/ctrl (Mac/PC) key, click the left mouse button, and it will switch to the area you want to get rid of the site you want to keep.

Next (I have it on the right side of the Zbrush window; if it is not there, I do not know where is yours located), go to the geometry section on your screen, go to the area that says modify topology, and there will be a button that says delete hidden.

This button will delete the location you select that is not visible on the screen. Next is the exact location (modify topology); press the button to fill holes. This method will give you a better geometry that you can use to restructure what you had. Note I did separate and adjust the fingers better to receive that structure. Man, that was a lot of typing.

Ok, I know that this is only two ways, but I know two more different ways, which make that four different ways to delete other geometry. One of the other two is new to Zbrush 2022. Look them up on Zbrushes website to see if the other ways are good for you. I use both of these ways to delete Geometry, and they are helpful. I wanted to write this because when I was looking for the reach on doing these things, it was hard for me to find them. I hope that will help you on the road to helping you work in Zbrush. Happy modeling :)
